Kern River Status Update

Kern River flows are high enough to provide some transfer water into the Kern Island and Farmers canals and laterals. All water users are encouraged to coordinate their demands with dispatch accordingly. As a reminder, water orders can also be placed via email at waterorder@kerndelta.org.

Recently, Kern Delta Water District and North Kern Water Storage District submitted a joint letter to the Bakersfield City Council regarding recent discussions related to water in the Kern River. The letter is attached here for your reference.

The Kern County Subbasin Groundwater Sustainability Agencies will be hosting a series of workshops regarding the Kern Subbasin’s new Groundwater Sustainability Plan on Thursday, October 3. Please see flyer below for workshop locations and times.

To help visualize the current state of the River, the District is providing this graph that compares flow rates for the two-year periods of 2022-2023, the current period of 2023-2024, as well as other two-year periods in which the second year follows a significantly above average for the Kern River. The flows for this year are estimates only and subject to revision.
