Kern Delta Water District was formed in December of 1965 under Division 13 of the State Water Code for the purposes of protecting the Kern River Water Rights serving certain lands within the District, and to provide a means for contracting water through the State Water Project (SWP).
Kern Delta currently serves Kern River and State water to approximately 90,000 irrigated acres through five different water rights: Kern Island, Buena Vista, Stine, Farmers, and Eastside Canals. The total length of these canals is over 126 miles, and all water is transported via gravity flow.
