Kern River Status Update
The latest California Department of Water Resources (DWR) water supply forecast model is predicting a 398% April – July water year on the Kern River. DWR also increased the State Water Project allocation last week from 35% to 75%.
In light of this potentially historic year, as well as from a groundwater management perspective, the District strongly encourages all growers to utilize surface deliveries over the coming weeks and months. This will assist in the recovery of groundwater levels throughout the District this year. It is also important that as a District we do our best to keep storage in Lake Isabella to a minimum to make room for the coming snow melt. |
