Kern River Status Update
Last week the Department of Water Resources (DWR) updated their B-120 May Forecast. The most recent forecast incorporated the 6-day forecasted precipitation from the California Nevada River Forecast Center and then assumes median climatology for the remainder of the forecast period. The 50% exceedance for the Kern River from April through July is 340,000 acre feet. That is 80% of average for DWR’s model period from 1991 to 2020. That is 73% of the Kern Rivers long term historical average.
A proration letter was sent out at the beginning of May that established the summer proration amounts. A copy of that letter can be found on our website here.
Earlier this year the District rolled out an online grower portal where you can review and place orders as well as make payments. If you have not already taken advantage of this service, please contact Operations at (661) 834-4653 to get set up.
