Kern River Status Update

The Kern Island Canal and it’s laterals are currently in operation. Other canals may start operating if required due to Powerflow obligations sometime later this month.

Last month water applications for 2022 went out to all water users. Growers are encouraged to review these applications to ensure the information we have on file is correct. A fillable form version of the cover page can be found on our website here (Simply complete, print, and include with your application). If you have any questions do not hesitate to reach out to our Operations Department at (661) 834-4653 and speak to Cindy. We ask that growers complete the applications and submit them as soon as possible.

To help visualize the current state of the River, the District is providing this graph that compares flow rates for the two-year periods of 2020-2021, the current period of 2021-2022, as well as other two-year periods in which the first year was below average for the Kern River. The flows for this year are estimates only and subject to revision.
