Kern River Status Update

As the summer season begins to wind down, the following changes are expected. These dates are subject to change depending on Kern River flow and fluctuations in grower demand.

Eastside Canal: All deliveries will be State Water effective August 16. The Eastside Canal is expected to remain in operation through the end of the month.

Stine Service Area: All deliveries will be State Water effective tomorrow, August 7. Deliveries to the Stine Service Area are expected to cease on August 19.

Buena Vista Service Area: Deliveries to the Buena Vista Service Area are expected to cease on August 22.

Farmers Service Area: Deliveries to the Farmers Utility are expected to cease on August 26.

To help visualize the current state of the River, the District is providing this graph that compares flow rates for the two-year periods of 2022-2023, the current period of 2023-2024, as well as other two-year periods in which the second year follows a significantly above average for the Kern River. The flows for this year are estimates only and subject to revision.
