Kern River Status Update

Due to the current Kern River flow and the District storage caps for the month of January at Isabella Reservoir, there is presently water available in all District canals. In February the District will have more storage capacity in Lake Isabella and will be maximizing storage for use later in the irrigation season. As this occurs some canal systems may be cut back or even shut down. District staff will do our best to keep growers informed. If you have any questions please call the District’s Dispatch Office at (661) 834-4653.

Once again the North West Kern Resource Conservation District is offering irrigation system evaluations through it’s Mobil Lab. The Mobil Lab technicians will check the operation of your filters, and emitters and sprinklers at a low cost to water users. For more information you can call the Irrigation Mobile Lab at (661) 281-2746 and ask for Brian Hockett. Further information can be found here.

The District is pleased to announce that our website has now gone live. The new website offers an assortment of information regarding District programs and policies to better serve our growers and community. It can be viewed here.

To help visualize the current state of the River, the District is providing this graph that compares flow rates for the two year periods of 2017-2018, 2018-2019, the current period of 2019-2020, as well as other two year periods in which the first year was above average for the Kern River. The flows for this year are estimates only and subject to revision.
