Kern River Status Update

Due to the current Kern River flow and the District storage caps for the month of January at Isabella Reservoir, there is water available in some of the District’s canals. If you have a demand for surface water at this time, please call the District’s Dispatch Office at (661) 834-4653 and let us know.

The District is pleased to announce that our website has now gone live. The new website offers an assortment of information regarding District programs and policies to better serve our growers and community. It can be viewed at www.kerndelta.org

At the December 5th Kern River Groundwater Sustainability Agency (KRGSA) meeting a public hearing was held and the KRGSA Groundwater Sustainability Plan was adopted. A copy of that plan can be viewed here.

To help visualize the current state of the River, the District is providing this graph that compares flow rates for the two year periods of 2017-2018, 2018-2019, the current period of 2019-2020, as well as other two year periods in which the first year was above average for the Kern River. The flows for this year are estimates only and subject to revision.
Below is a list of upcoming meetings that may interest our growers. The information presented at these meetings may directly affect agricultural practices and costs.
